PhD Researcher in Thermal Management & Energy‑Efficient HVAC for Electric Vehicles!
Ghent University – Sustainable Thermo‑Fluid Energy Systems (STFES)
Ghent University’s STFES research group, known for its cutting‑edge work in thermal energy systems, is recruiting a motivated and talented PhD student to join an exciting new project on:
“Thermal Management and Energy‑Efficient HVAC Components for Electric Vehicles under Extreme Weather Conditions”
🔍 About the Project
You will contribute to the next generation of thermal management systems for battery‑electric vehicles (BEVs), with a strong focus on:
• Developing control‑oriented models for advanced HVAC components
• Designing predictive thermal management strategies
• Validating technologies via hardware‑in‑the‑loop and full‑vehicle demonstrators
You will also support the STFES group in educational and team activities.
🎓 Your Profile
They are looking for candidates who:
• Hold a Master’s degree in (Electro)Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics (max. 5 years ago)
• Have experience or strong interest in thermal energy research
• Communicate clearly in English
• Bring motivation, project‑management skills, and an open, collaborative mindset

• Full‑time PhD fellowship: 12 months, extendable up to 48 months after positive evaluation
• Earliest starting date: June 1st, 2026
