PhD position in optimization

CRIStAL laboratory and Inria France

Details

Dear all, We are currently looking for candidates for a PhD position entitled: A systematic investigation on the design of landscape features for automated optimization. This PhD project aims to better understand and design informative descriptors that characterize the structure of optimization problems in order to improve automatic algorithm selection and configuration. This PhD will focus on designing new theoretically grounded descriptors, learning landscape representations (autoencoders, GNNs, Point Cloud Transformers), and assessing their impact on automated optimization pipelines. The goal is to establish solid principles for creating informative, interpretable, and efficient landscape features. A more detailed description of the PhD project is available at this link: https://phd.cristal.univ-lille.fr/details.html?id=96118d537159473b9c8d568d51232b83. The PhD will be conducted within the BONUS team, which is a joint research group of the CRIStAL laboratory (https://sites.google.com/view/bonus-research-group/), and the Inria research center at the University of Lille. Interested candidates with a strong background in optimization, machine learning, or theoretical computer science, and a genuine motivation for research, are invited to contact me by sending: - transcripts from the last two years of study; - a short statement of scientific motivation; - a CV. I look forward to hearing from you. Kind regards,
