The Weed Science Research Group at Mississippi State University is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our research group and collaborate with Dr. Muthukumar Bagavathiannan at Texas A&M University on a project at the intersection of machine learning, agriculture, and geospatial analytics.
This position will focus on developing AI-driven solutions for real-world agricultural challenges, including:
• UAV-based weed detection and classification
• UAV-based herbicide application optimization
Required Background
• Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Agricultural Engineering, Precision Agriculture, or related field
• Strong coding skills (Python required; R is a plus)
• Solid quantitative and statistical foundation
Preferred Experience
• Machine learning frameworks
• Geospatial tools
• Remote sensing or UAV imagery
• Understanding of crop production or weed science systems
