The MESCAL project is recruiting a PhD student to work on marine connectivity and climate change resilience across networks of Marine Protected Areas (#MPAs) along the East African coast, within the international #MESCAL project. The PhD will focus on larval dispersal modelling to assess the climate change resilience of exploited marine fish populations, integrating genetic and physiological traits associated with climate resilience. 🔹 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁: September 2026 🔹 𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 3 years 🔹 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Kenya (Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI) OFFICIAL, Mombasa) & France (IRD Institut de recherche pour le développement MARine Biodiversity Exploitation and Conservation MARBEC, Sète), with fieldwork across East Africa 🔹 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴: Fully funded IRD ARTS PhD bursary + research costs covered 🔹 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲: 10 March 2026 🎓 Applicants should hold a Master’s degree in marine population dynamics, ecological modelling, statistics, population genetics, or related fields.
